Insights on the EU's
General Data Protection Regulation

On 14 April 2016, the European Parliament voted to adopt the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and it will come into effect on 25 May 2018. The GDPR will create challenges and opportunities for businesses, irrespective of where they are based, if they have operations in the European Union (EU).

Data protection will become a significant compliance risk for organisations, accompanied by significant regulatory sanctions. Under the Regulation, data protection will no longer be an area in which businesses can afford to take casual risks. Fines will rise to as much as 4% of global turnover for breach of law, including data breach.
