There is often a disconnect between what employees are thinking and what employers believe they are thinking. For example, while employees rank low pay as a leading cause of their stress, employers rank it 11th on a 12-item list of stressors for employees.*

To address workplace stress, employers first need to understand its root causes. Those who base their efforts on misguided assumptions risk addressing the wrong problems and alienating employees.
