Ross Stein is a scientist emeritus at the U.S. Geological Survey and creator of the seismic risk tool called temblor.net. Ross discuss the collaboration and partnership between Temblor and Willis Research Network.
Ross Stein, the CEO of Temblor studies how earthquakes interact by the transfer of stress. He received an Sc.B. from Brown University with honors, and a Ph.D. from Stanford University. He is a Consulting Professor of Geophysics at Stanford University, a Scientist Emeritus at the USGS, and President-elect of the Tectonophysics section of the American Geophysical Union (AGU).
Stein received the Eugene M. Shoemaker Distinguished Achievement Award of the USGS, the Excellence in Outreach Award of the Southern California Earthquake Center, and the Outstanding Contributions and Cooperation in Geoscience Award from NOAA. He has carried out research for NASA, FEMA, US Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance and so on. In 2009 Stein cofounded the Global Earthquake Model (GEM Foundation), a public-private partnership building the first seismic risk model for the world, and chaired GEM’s Science Board for 5 years.
Temblor is one of WRN’s long-term partner. In this interview Ross elaborates on the current project WRN and Temblor are working on, developing tools and insights as to how one earthquake can trigger a next or inhibit another, and how does that affect their need for re/insurance?
