Our research shows that to get and keep tech talent, employers need to bridge gaps in key areas, including:

  • Understanding what employees value. Many employers of tech talent don’t fully appreciate what motivates their workforce. For example, not only are compensation and career advancement important, but increasingly so are health and well-being, and flexible working arrangements.
  • Driving innovation in HR practices. HR departments often fall short when it comes to innovating in such areas as career and performance management, and providing workforce analytics to drive better decision making.
  • Prioritizing managerial skills and performance management. The 2016 Global Workforce Study shows that 70% of managers spend less than six hours per employee per year on performance management. This situation creates dissatisfaction among employees with the level of support they receive in career planning and development.
